What exactly is organic?
Organic products may only be labelled as such if they meet certain guidelines. These differ slightly depending on the label, but the term “organic” is protected and strictly defined within the European Union by the EU Organic Regulation. This ensures that all goods labelled as organic products are actually of organic quality.
There is a strict control system to ensure that the production process complies with the guidelines and legal requirements. Those companies that sell organic food are checked by an independent, state-authorized and accredited control body at least once a year. If all the necessary standards are met, the company receives a corresponding test certificate valid for one year.
What organic labels are there and what do they mean?
The EU organic logo is probably the most important organic label within the European Union. Since 2010, the EU organic logo has been a mandatory label for all organic products. Foods with this organic label have been produced according to the guidelines of the EU organic regulation and are guaranteed to be of organic quality.
Other important seals that can occasionally be seen on packaging in addition to the EU organic logo include, for example, the German organic seal, the AMA organic seal and the Bio AUSTRIA logo. However, these seals require the already strict guidelines of the EU organic regulation and may only be affixed to the product if they also fulfill the guidelines of the organic associations in addition to the EU guidelines.
You should be careful, however, with designations such as “from controlled cultivation”, “from environmentally friendly agriculture” and “from natural cultivation”. These promises are merely phrases used for advertising purposes and not actual organic products. Therefore, if you want to buy organic food, you should always look for the EU-protected terms “bio” or “ökologisch”!
Are organic foods really healthier?
Organic food is free from genetic engineering and contains fewer substances that reduce its quality. These include synthetic chemical pesticides, antibiotics and heavy metals. For these two reasons alone, they can be considered healthier.
In addition, they contain particularly high levels of vitamins and minerals as well as a greater variety of phytochemicals. This results in increased antioxidant properties and thus enables your body to better fight free radicals and oxidative stress. This makes organic products an important part of a healthy diet.

Which foods should I definitely buy in organic quality?
In general, you should choose organic products whenever possible. This applies to fruit and vegetables as well as all other products in your daily diet. Whether it's cereals, milk, dairy products or meat, you should always choose organic quality if you want to do something good for your body and the environment.
Fruit and vegetables in particular benefit from organic cultivation. Because they are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, they contain a higher proportion of micronutrients. In particular, their content of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals is noteworthy. Thus, they also contain a particularly high proportion of antioxidants, which in turn help us to reduce oxidative stress and maintain our health.
But you should also make sure that the cereals and cereal products you buy are of the right quality. Here, too, the use of pesticides is prohibited and contamination with heavy metals is reduced. In addition, organic products are full of healthy fiber and a variety of essential micronutrients. For these reasons, we have decided to use only organic ingredients in our products, not only to stand out in terms of taste, but also to pamper our customers with only the best ingredients.
Conclusion: Is organic better?
Organic food can generally be considered healthier in terms of environmental aspects and nutritional properties. This is partly because they are free of GMOs and pesticides, and partly because they have a higher proportion of micronutrients and antioxidants in particular. In addition, they are less contaminated with heavy metals and antibiotics are not used in their production. All in all, you can only benefit from this 😉
