In recent years, more and more breakfast and food trends have emerged. Many of these trends failed to catch on and quickly disappeared. A trend that has already established itself and is very popular is the smoothie bowl trend.
Extremely healthy and delicious, easy to make, and usually extremely fresh! And those are just the hard facts. So, if you have had enough of bread and eggs as a healthy breakfast , want to do something good for the environment, and also want to go a healthier way, you are in the right place with our blog post today.
Smoothie bowls? What exactly is that?
Actually, you should have already seen a lot of pictures of different smoothie bowls. By now, everyone has been able to spot the colorful bowls in their Instagram feed. But what exactly are smoothie bowls?

Are smoothie bowls just smoothies but served in a bowl? No, it's not that simple, although it ultimately comes down to that. However, the trend name has developed from the fact that the dish is consumed from a bowl. The smoothie bowl is particularly popular for breakfast. So, it is almost a smoothie – but the basis for this is usually oat porridge or chia seeds mixed with water, juice, or milk and fruit.
The special thing about the smoothie bowl is that one of the basic ingredients should best be processed frozen. This will make your bowl extra creamy! Because for many people, a "normal" smoothie for drinking is simply not enough to feel full.
Creamy and liquid – and really healthy!
The body is often not as well satiated by drinking. This is not just a figment of your imagination, but you can easily remedy it by simply spooning the smoothie – at least that's the basic idea.
By adding chia seeds or oatmeal, the smoothie gets just the right consistency – creamy, flaky, and delicious. But the addition of seeds and oats is not only great for consistency. Mixing in the ingredients just mentioned is also extremely healthy! This is especially important when it comes to breakfast. If you start the day healthy, you will start the day well. So, a healthy breakfast is really the basis for a healthy body.
Oats and chia seeds as a base – the extra healthy kick!
Oats have increasingly become THE regional superfood. Due to their high content of fiber and vitamins, oats are not only extremely tasty, but also incredibly healthy! This is how you can help prevent cardiovascular disease or diabetes with oats. In addition, oats contain a lot of iron – so you no longer need meat. 😉
The seeds of the chia plant are just as healthy for you. They contain vegetable unsaturated fatty acids – these have long been considered thickeners, but this misconception has been refuted. Saturated fatty acids are extremely important for the body; especially vegetable fatty acids play a major role here. They lower your cholesterol levels, support blood circulation, promote brain power, and have an anti-inflammatory effect.
It's all about the Toppings
Now that we've clarified that seeds or oats are the creamy foundation (along with fruits and vegetables – best frozen so you can enjoy your breakfast extra creamy) for your smoothie bowl, we still need to talk about the second centerpiece. Toppings make your bowl a real eye-catcher.
Which toppings can you use now? Actually, there is no limit to your imagination here. Our recommendation here is all-embracing. For example, you can take extra fresh fruit again - but you should be careful not to process too many fruits, because too much fructose is not necessarily healthy either.
All forms of nuts are always a highlight. Cashews, for example, provide a lot of good fats and vitamins that you can benefit from significantly. Coconut flakes or seeds are also always a good idea. For an extra tasty push, we recommend a few more flavors: vanilla, cocoa, honey. As I said, you really have no limits here. If it tastes good, then it tastes good!
