Oatmeal is a millennia-old breakfast known for its nourishing ingredients. Nowadays, oatmeal is less well known as such, but the synonym porridge is on everyone's lips. Particularly in recent years, the oat mixture has become a pioneer due to its many advantages.
However, we clarify in this article how healthy porridge really is and whether the popular oat breakfast is truly as easy to digest as it is said to be. We'll also send you some tasty porridge ideas to get your day off to a perfect start.
What exactly is porridge?
The word porridge comes from British English and generally stands for porridge. In America, the famous porridge is called "oatmeal" . But no matter what you say, the main ingredient in porridge is usually oats .
Oatmeal has been consumed by humans for centuries and has long been considered food for the poorer section of the population. It's a little different today. Oats are now very popular with every section of the population . Due to its regionality and ease of purchase, it has enjoyed increasing popularity for years.
Oats count as a staple food and are produced extensively in large parts of Austria and Germany. Oats are therefore usually available regionally and do not cover incredibly long distances. This also keeps your personal carbon footprint low . The environment will thank you in any case!
Porridge as a Superfood – Oats as a Superfood!
It is often said that porridge is one of the so-called superfoods. This refers to products that contain a variety of healthy substances and are therefore very healthy.
Porridge wasn't always as popular as it is today. It has often been said that oatmeal is not quite as healthy because it contains a lot of fats. However, this misconception, which arose at the time, is largely refuted today. The fats contained in oats are actually healthy for the body!
Why is porridge so healthy?
We have already talked about the mono- and polyunsaturated fats contained in oats . These are essential for the body and should not be missing in any healthy diet. If you want to pay special attention to this, you should top your porridges with nuts .
These are particularly fatty and healthy. But the flakes are not just adorned with fatty acids. Porridge contains a lot of protein, various vitamins, and a lot of minerals and fiber . Especially the oats in the healthy porridge ensure an extremely healthy effect.
Porridge keeps your blood sugar level constant – oats contain vitamins B1, B6 as well as zinc, iron, and magnesium, among other things . Now you know why it earned the name Superfood! So maybe try porridge after all? We're sure you'll find what you're looking for – now even in our large XXL packs. So you don't have to buy so often.
Porridge and digestion?
So is porridge easy to digest or not? Above, we have already talked about the proportion of fiber in oatmeal . This is very high – and this means that porridge is also very good for digestion!
Fiber is beneficial for the intestinal flora and cleanses your intestines. For this to work well, however, you should exercise enough and drink enough. Otherwise, the opposite effect may occur.

But essentially, porridge has many benefits for your digestion. So a bowl of porridge in the morning is a good choice – not just because of the fiber. The fact that you eat oatmeal warm contributes to the fact that the body is easier to digest. Hot breakfast is healthier around corners than cold ones. This was already known in Traditional Chinese Medicine 😉
Celiac disease and oats? Can they go together?
For many people with gluten allergies or even celiac disease, many forms of cereals are fundamentally taboo. Is oats a problem here? This answer needs a bit of explanation. If you like to eat porridge, you should make sure that you choose the gluten-free variant.
Oatmeal is usually gluten-free as long as it has not come into contact with other cereals containing gluten. However, you are on the safe side if you simply pay attention to the gluten-free sign.
